It's That Time Again!
Hi Kiddies!
Last year, I hosted a Blog-A-Thon for Alfred Hitchcock. My reasoning was that I hadn't seen nearly enough of this man's works. My method was to try and watch every single thing he ever made by the date I held the event, November 15th, 2006.
I liked having this marathon-style, director-themed 'Thon so much I decided to have it every year.
This year, starting on November 15th I will be doing the same thing for another man on my 'not-nearly-watched-enough director' list: Akira Kurosawa.
As with most Blog-A-Thons, the rules are simple:
Write something having something to do with Japanese Director Akira Kurosawa and post it on your site on November 15th - 22nd. Email me or comment your link so I can add it to my master list. If you don't have a blog, send me your essay, photos or comments and I'll be glad to put it up for you.
Articles can include anything from reviews of the man's films to his production style, or feel free to touch upon his dramatic personal life. Remakes, book reviews, comparissons of his Shakespeare versus those of other directors... Anything goes!
As for me I'll be hitting the archives and watching (as much as possible) everything he's ever made in preparation for a post of my own. Between now and November, you can follow along as I post reviews of my recent chronological viewings of the films he's directed - and decide for yourselves if it's worthy of watching or not.
Keep your eyes on these pages as I immerse myself in greatness!
Of course I'll participate in this baby. Mark me down for "High & Low"
Sign me up now! I haven't seen a single Kurosawa and I KNOW I have to, so this will be perfect! You rule Squish!
I might have to have a go at this. I've always thought Kurosawa had a better handle on Shakespeare than any other filmmaker I've seen, so I will probably do a little compare/contrast including Throne of Blood, Ran and maybe The Bad Sleep Well, which has some Hamlet-y overtones.
I'd love to participate, I can't claim to be particularly well versed in Kurosawa's films, but I'll see what I can do before the date.
I'm all in. I did something for Jigoku to tengoku awhile back for a blog I used to write for. Guess I will do something for one of the older ones since peeps seem to know less about those.
I'm not sure if I'm eligible to participate, but my Akira Kurosawa blog/website at http://akirakurosawa.info/ is updated continuously, and is 100% Kurosawa. :-)
Never plan for more than a month ahead myself, but I'd like to try participate.
