Friday the 13th Part 2 (1981)
Genre: Slasher Horror Serial
Starring: Adrienne King (Friday The 13th), Stuart Charno
Directed By: Steve Miner (Halloween H20: 20 Years Later; Warlock)
Overview: Five years after the grizzly killings at Camp Crystal Lake another group of counsellors open up a camp on the same lake. Sadly that camp is just a little too close...
These people. You know, in all honestly, Steve Miner does a better job directing this crew than the last one, but they got no Kevin Bacon. The difference, though better, is negligible. It's like all they needed was a girl with a nice figure and a healthy pair of screaming lungs, and she was in. Yeah right, a nice pair of...lungs.
The same old dark cinematography didn't help the cameraman's case, but there's certainly one very interesting scene at the end that outdoes the original. Creeeepy. You know by watching this that the budget mostly went into the gore and the marketing...
This script does what many horror films tend to do: presume that the suggestion made by one person is true, then build on that supposed truth, which somehow actually ends up being THE Truth. Leaps of logic and talking about sex and skinny dipping abound. What do you want? Shakespeare? Ha!
The plot is thin, my friend. Camp counsellors start working on the final touches, fixing up the place before the kiddies arrive. When talk turns to the murders across the lake, people don't take much stock in it. Next comes the sex, blood and wheelchair spokes, until the final showdown. Who will survive? What about Muffin, the dog? What happens to MUFFIN?!
The mood was pretty good. Somehow it didn't have the zing of the first one, but it's actually a little creepier. If you want to watch some corny horror flick that will keep you entertained enough to watch the whole thing, well this is better that good.
Overall Rating: 62% (Keeping The Formula Will Give You The Same Results...)
I want to have a drinking game with this series of films. Half the group choses 'Murder' and the other half choses 'Nudity'. Every time someone gets killed, Murder Team drinks. Every time someone takes off their top, a drink for Nudity Team! I'm not sure who'd come out drunker, but either way, it sounds like a good time!
The characters of this movie made ONLY 1 attempt at finally pacifying or killing the assailant! That's unheard of!
