Lars Von Trier

The Commoner King Of Denmark

Evil gives you far more strings to pull. But I must say that I have never been interested in the psychology of evil, not in the slightest. Perhaps I'm not interested in evil, but in the dark sides of human beings.
- Lars von Trier

If you ask me who my favorite director is, the response is a hasty Lars von Trier. What I like best about this director is not that all his works are my favorites, much the opposite, but that my favorite stories of his are told in the same way I would tell them: tragic, pessimistic, anti-America and bleak without pulling any punches, yet with heroes and heroines who suffer with hope in their hearts, oppressed by the world around them. In short, my favorite von Trier films are the ones that mirror my own outlook on life and society, knowing you're surrounded by malignance yet surviving with a joyous yet jaded heart.
