Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter (1984)
Genre: Slasher Horror Serial
Starring: Cory Feldman (The Goonies; Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles), Crispin Glover (Back To The Future; Willard)
Directed By: Joseph Zito
Overview: Following his rampage from last night, Jason was only taking a little nap. When he wakes up in the morgue, he's more pissed than ever!
In this one we have a cast that had some staying power. I mean we have Cory Feldman who went on to do Stand By Me, and Crispin Glover of Back To The Future! Hello McFly! I'd says this director was better for the actors, for sure. Were they GOOD? Come on, cut them some slack!
I wouldn't say that the locations and the cinematography of this one is anything better than some run of the mill television production. On the upside there's at least enough quality to suit television, so what the heck. Decent gore, as always.
The dialogue is better than in Part 3, but the characterization is worse. This is just a bunch of kids who are trying to hump one another and their words say as much. Again we're listening to people talk about ass and saying "Billy, lock the door! Who's there?" Are we trying to understand these people? Are they worthy of a Travis Bickle moment? Not likely.
The story is really, really stupid. Jason wakes up and goes home. Once back at the lake, the story centers around a group of horny kids trying to score, and a guy out to get the badass who terrorized his sister. These guys got no couth, no manners, and they treat the women like meat. As for the climactic ending, a little out there, but not too bad.
The mood suffers for me because every single girl wore pink. No kidding. But what did you come here for? Sneaky one-by-one kills with a couple cheap scares and an original finish that makes you laugh and fear at the same time? Well for that you get points.
Overall Rating: 60% (I'm Still Waiting For ONE To Get Over The 70% Hump)
You know I think Jason has made the most sequels of any horror genre eh? I think the only person who's got him beat is James Bond. Jason's got 11 movies to his name, Freddy's got 8. Close, but no machete. Well I'm really liking the memorabilia of the 80s slasher flick. I'm glad I got the whole Jason collection all at once.
The characters of this movie made 3 attempts at finally pacifying or killing the assailant. Gettin' tougher!
